My Black Rubber Boots
Haiku by Kelly Lenihan
My black rubber boots
Are good for exploring
When it is wet out.
Shivering with cold
Small wet bird shimmies and shakes
Water drops spraying.
Flowers in spring rain
Glistening with drips and drops
Bending from the weight.
My black rubber boots
Stomping in puddles with glee
Water splashing everywhere.
Ooey gooey slug
Silently sliding along
Leaving a slick trail.
Big wet cherry tree
Branches drooping from the weight
Flowers fall softly.
My black rubber boots
and my big red umbrella
Almost keep me dry.
Vibrant green moss thrives
Hiding bugs for hungry birds
Breakfast is served.
Purple, red, gold, green
Rainbow pierces cloud cover
Brightening the gloom.
My black rubber boots
Damp sidewalk sparkles quite bright
Sun glows behind clouds.

Is this a whole bunch of haikus put together?! I don’t think I’ve seen that before, very creative! So many wonderful images here, my favorite were the ooey gooey slug and the vibrant green moss–I LOVE moss (a soft, natural carpet in the outdoors, what’s not to love?). Thank you for sharing this entertaining story with us for the Spring Fling Kidlit Contest!
Kelly Lenihan says
Thank you Kaitlyn. Yes, this is a bunch of haikus strung together, my first attempt.
